Flash Fiction #57

This was something I started to write a couple of months ago, but forgot about it until now. Hope you enjoy this! ~~~ It’s the same thing day in and day out. Wake up, eat, work, and then sleep. People often ask me what I want for my future, but I like my job currently despite the mundane job duties. It’s safe and comfortable. Every time someone asks what I do, I would say “I’m just a dishwasher”, people simply roll their eyes with displeasure at the bottom of the barrel job. I would imagine they were thinking along the lines of “This guy is a wasted potential”. I enter the restaurant from the back, and wash any dirty dishes that come back from the front throughout the night. I see co-workers come and go, looking for better things elsewhere in the meantime. That was when I met him. A one of a kind guy. He shook my hand with a smile. “I’m Alex, nice to meet you. Have you been working here long?” “Nice to meet you too. I’m Jackie. To answer your question, five years if I recall co...

Flash Fiction #56

I was inspired recently, so hope you enjoy! ^_^ ~~~ Sitting alone on the bench in the train terminal station, I had music blasting at full volume while reading a book. I just missed the train, and there wouldn't be another one for another hour or so. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little girl on her knees looking for something on the floor. I ignored her, focusing on the book but eventually took out the headphones when she sighed and slouched on the bench beside me as she looked down. I lowered the book to my lap and faced the little girl. "What are you trying to find?" She turned towards me with a surprised look. "I lost my bracelet, but I was sure I dropped it near here. I checked all of the other places, and nothing." "Have you checked the lost and found? Maybe someone found it and dropped it off there." Her eyes followed mine to the lost and found a ways away, and I chuckled as I could imagine the light bulb turned on inside her b...

Writing Prompt - First line: The horse came back alone. Hope you enjoy~! ~~~ The horse came back alone. Before noticing the horse running back, Alisa sat near the fireplace in the living room and prayed that Alex would come back safely after going out to investigate the disturbance at their neighbour's home. After hearing something from the outside, Alisa peeked through the window and ran outside in a panic. She steadied the horse by grabbing the reins, and padding it gently. She looked as far out as she could, hoping to see what went wrong. The only question that kept on repeating inside her head was: Where was Alex? After leading the horse back into the barn and closing it up, she went back into the house trying to figure out what to do next as she paced back and forth. "What would Alex do?" "I have to go and find him." Alisa stopped and look over at the lantern near the front door. "I'm scared, but I can't simply wait for help like be...

Writing Prompt: Have someone looking for something that is lost. Hope you enjoy! ~~~ Maria ran up and down the street as she stared intensely for the bracelet that she had gotten as a gift. "Where is it? I can't believe I lost it!" She screamed at herself from within. She could feel the rush in the heart beat, and beads of sweat forming on her forehead and back of the neck. "I'm sure it must be here somewhere. I checked at home, and at school. I couldn't find it anywhere. How can I be so careless?" Maria cried when she realized the bracelet was lost, and wanted to cry even more while running around. "I can't cry. Tears won't find my bracelet." When she saw a bracelet near an alleyway, she jumped at it with disappointment. "It's just some junk." She lowered her head at her bad luck, but she got up with renewed enthusiasm unwilling to show defeat. After walking down the same route from her home to school for th...

Flash Fiction #53

Writing Prompt: Make a character cry. Hope you enjoy! ~~~ Maria jumped up and down, wrapping arms with her teammates as her softball team won the game. "Good job, everyone!" Her teammates reciprocated the cheerfulness, and celebrated the come back from behind win. Maria noticed Sarah and Taylor coming towards her from the stands, and ran towards them. "Thank you both for coming out! It means a lot to me cheering for us in this type of game." "No problem. It was really entertaining." Sarah hugged her younger sister, congratulating her. "That diving catch that you made in the field in the ninth inning was so clutch! I wish I had my camera to take a photo. Good job, Maria." Taylor brushed her hair. Maria froze for a split second as Taylor was making a mess of her hair. She was glad that she was hiding her face in Sarah's shoulder with that moment, as it started to turn red. She tipped her hat down to try to hide as much of her face...

Flash Fiction #52

Writing Prompt: In this scene, include something that your character is afraid of. Hope you enjoy! ~~~ "I think that I just erased the mental image of Sarah making out with Taylor from my memory." Maria nodded with approval after reading her favourite baseball comic book. After putting down one of the volumes, Sarah knocked on Maria's door and opened it. "Maria, dinner time." As soon as Maria saw Sarah again, the mental image returned to her and made a squeamish sound. Sarah sighed, annoyed, knowing exactly what Maria was thinking. "That's what you get for barging into my room unannounced. I don't feel sorry at all." "Put up a sign or something." Maria argued as they descended down to the dining room. "Knock at least, like what I just did." Sarah shook her head. "Manners and common sense, Maria." Maria totally forgot about the conversation as soon as she saw at least one dish they were going to eat ...

Flash Fiction #51

Writing Prompt: Write about an awkward social encounter. Hope you enjoy! ~~~ "I don't understand this problem at all!" Maria took her eraser and removed her answer to the math question in her notebook. There were already markings from previous attempts, and she scratched her hair in frustration. "I give up. I'm going to ask Sarah for help." Maria took her textbook and notebook, and walked down the hallway to her older sister's bedroom. She yelled as she opened the door, "Sarah! Can you please help me with this problem? I've been stuck for 30 minutes already!" Maria's mouth dropped open, and her eyes wide with shock as she witnessed Sarah and her boyfriend in a make-out session on the bed. Sarah noticed her younger sister at the doorway, and gently pushed her boyfriend away from her, frazzled.  "Maria, the least you can do is knock!" Maria blushed at the sight and thought of her sister and her boyfriend kissin...
