Flash Fiction #49

I found this random writing prompt and decided to write a bit about it for fun. Hope you enjoy!

"A mysterious death occurs. Your character realizes no-one will listen to what he's saying."

~~~
I saw it with my own eyes. The murderer who killed my sister. She hid me in our closet just moments before as I peeked through the gaps in the door to see a person in a long coat and hat walked in through our front door. They talked for a bit before she struggled against him, and eventually choked her to death. As I held my breath to not alert the murderer, I leaned back against the back of the closet unsure of what to do. As soon as I couldn't hear his footsteps anymore, I pushed open the closet doors and rushed over to my sister to try to wake her up by shaking.
"Elizabeth! Elizabeth!"
I sobbed as I tried my best to wake her up, trying to deny what happened just now. To no avail, she remained motionless. After calling the cops through my tears, they eventually came and put me aside as they started to prepare to move her.
"What's your name?"
"Ken."
"Ken, do you know what happened here?"
"Someone came and killed my sister. I don't know what he looks like because he wore a hat to cover parts of his face and a coat to cover what he was wearing underneath."
I watched the detective scribble down something before looking up. "Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss."
After the detective turned around, sighed and walked back to his colleagues, I stood up and pulled on his pants. "You'll catch my sister's killer, right?! You're going to start to investigate it first thing tomorrow, right?!"
"It's really sad to say this, but from our preliminary reports, your sister passed away because she had a heart attack. There was no murderer."
"I'm certain there was someone here! Please believe me!"
"You're in shock. I know it's going to take some time to accept her death, but that is what our doctor has told us. There was no foul play here." The detective kneeled down and looked straight into my eyes.
"Why aren't you listening to what I'm saying!? I'm telling everything I know!" I backed away from the detective. "If you're not going to do anything about it, then I'll find the killer on my own!"
I ran out the front door, wiping the tears with my sleeve. Elizabeth, I'll get my revenge no matter how long it takes. Even if no one believes me, I'll catch the killer if it's the last thing I do.
Maria ran up and down the street as she stared intensely for the bracelet that she had gotten as a gift. "Where is it? I can't believe I lost it!" She screamed at herself from within. She could feel the rush in the heart beat, and beads of sweat forming on her forehead and back of the neck.
"I'm sure it must be here somewhere. I checked at home, and at school. I couldn't find it anywhere. How can I be so careless?"
Maria cried when she realized the bracelet was lost, and wanted to cry even more while running around. "I can't cry. Tears won't find my bracelet."
When she saw a bracelet near an alleyway, she jumped at it with disappointment. "It's just some junk." She lowered her head at her bad luck, but she got up with renewed enthusiasm unwilling to show defeat.
After walking down the same route from her home to school for thirty minutes…
Maria jumped up and down, wrapping arms with her teammates as her softball team won the game. "Good job, everyone!"
Her teammates reciprocated the cheerfulness, and celebrated the come back from behind win. Maria noticed Sarah and Taylor coming towards her from the stands, and ran towards them. "Thank you both for coming out! It means a lot to me cheering for us in this type of game."
"No problem. It was really entertaining." Sarah hugged her younger sister, congratulating her.
"That diving catch that you made in the field in the ninth inning was so clutch! I wish I had my camera to take a photo. Good job, Maria." Taylor brushed her hair.
Maria froze for a split second as Taylor was making a mess of her hair. She was glad that she was hiding her face in Sarah's shoulder with that moment, as it started to turn red. She tipped her hat down to try to hide as much of her face as she stepp…
"Shoot her." The boss told me as he handed me a pistol, and guided my hand to point it at Ashley. She was tied to a chair with rope, unconscious.
My eyes were wide open with shock. I couldn't believe what I just heard. "B-Boss, w-what do you mean? She's our comrade!"
"Not anymore. We found out she has been betraying us all along. She's a spy for the police."
"I don't believe you!" I lowered the pistol a little bit, trying to grasp what was going on. "Are you certain? She has to be set up by someone else."
"It doesn't matter at this point. Even if she wasn't the spy, I need to send a message to keep my image."
Ashley woke up from her slumber, and fidgeted in her seat realising that she was tied up. "What's going on?" She saw the …
